The Doors – L.A. Woman: The Workshop Sessions (2012)

    • Originally Released:  6 March 2012

    • This Release:   2012

    • Mastering:   Bernie Grundman

    • Comments:   The only pressing available (as far as I’m aware). This is strictly for die-hard Doors fans. It’s basically an alternative version of the L.A. Woman album, consisting of alternate takes, plus a couple of unreleased tracks. Side 4 is laser etched with the album lyrics, contrary to the claim on the sticker that it is etched with the “electric woman”. This is interesting but I wouldn’t call it essential. The vinyl is very nicely pressed and the gatefold artwork is great.

Track List

A1 The Changeling (Alternate Version)

A2 Love Her Madly (Alternate Version)

A3 Cars Hiss By My Window (Alternate Version)

A4 L.A. Woman (Alternate Version)

B1 The WASP (Texas Radio And The Big Beat) (Alternate Version)

B2 Been Down So Long (Alternate Version)

B3 Riders On The Storm (Alternate Version)

C She Smells So Nice / Rock Me

    • Comments:   180 gram reissue mastered from the original master tapes, using a hi-rez digital process (detailed here). Some people think this is sacrilege. I think the results speak for themselves and the results on this are very impressive (I don’t consider myself an audiophile so don’t get all bent out of shape if you disagree with me). It certainly sounds much better than my 80’s Australian pressing.

Do you have this pressing? If so, what do you think? Do you have a different pressing? How is it? Please feel free to comment.
